The context of this story

Year: 1997
Products: iPod, iPhone

Let's compare them with the results of the iPod and Zune

Remember when the Microsoft Zune player was launched? A few people succumbed to Microsoft’s marketing hype and hailed it as the iPod killer. Steve Ballmer himself estimated that Zune would capture a quarter of the market. If we look at the sales results published by the NPD Group for January 2007, the iPod’s share was 72.7% and Microsoft Zune’s share was 3.2%. Zune failed to meet any of its marketing goals even after a year on the most advanced market.

The initial sales results for the iPhone were definitely impressive, and it seems that the situation with the Nokia 6110 model and Finnish Nokia’s domination of the mobile market may repeat itself. Do you remember the Nokia 6110 and the year 1997? It was also “just a phone” with an infrared port and games. The iPhone will also be [”]{dir=”rtl”}just a phone with better internet and multimedia.” The iPhone will teach the telecommunications industry a really good lesson. Of course, we won’t see the changes right away, but one day, looking back, even those who are less attentive or more biased will realize that the iPhone is the biggest mobile milestone of the year and quite possibly of this decade. That will be enough for it to be a groundbreaking success.
